PEI License Renewal Credit Class Half Price Awards  – Up to $1000 Available

Apply now!  PEIF is offering half price scholarships for educators attending PEI Professional Development Classes. These scholarships are intended to help classroom teachers expand their professional skills and knowledge in areas of ethics, classroom management, dyslexia, leadership, financial literacy, and STEM.

To apply for a scholarship, please submit a paragraph to info@peiowa.org describing the workshop you wish to attend and the direct benefits you expect this opportunity to bring to you and to your students.

Scholarship awards will be applied directly to the Professional Development class specified in the application (limit one per person per year).

Join Wilson® Credentialed Trainer Elizabeth Hoksbergen for a three-day Wilson Reading System® (WRS) Introductory Course. This course provides an overview of the WRS 4th Edition curriculum and serves as the prerequisite for WRS Level I Certification, allowing you to become a Wilson Dyslexia Practitioner.

Offered by Apples of Gold Center for Learning, this course is for educators, therapists, parents, and anyone interested in providing intensive intervention for individuals with dyslexia or language-based learning disabilities. The Wilson Reading System® is an effective, systematic program based on Orton-Gillingham principles, designed to help individuals with persistent phonological coding deficits improve their literacy skills.

Course Overview

  • Dates: Three consecutive days (16.5 hours)
  • Content: Phonemic awareness, decoding, word identification, morphological awareness, vocabulary, fluency, comprehension,  spelling, and handwriting.
  • Methods: Learn to implement WRS through diagnostic-prescriptive, explicit, multisensory, cumulative instruction techniques.
  • Outcome: Understand how to create personalized lessons and deliver structured literacy effectively for students who struggle with reading and writing.
  • Certification: Completion of this 3-day course is the prerequisite to pursue Level I Certification in the Wilson Reading System.

Upon completion, participants will be able to:

  • Define dyslexia and understand how to identify and place students in the WRS program.
  • Use multisensory techniques for teaching reading, spelling, and comprehension.
  • Apply the WRS lesson plan and strategies for decoding, morphology, spelling, fluency, and comprehension.
